Mellon Summer Stipends (for continuing students)
The Mellon Summer Stipends will be one-time awards of $6,000, designed to aid students with their research and writing. These funds will be in addition to what the students are already receiving, so, in essence, they will earn an extra summer of funding.

The application will include a two-page statement for proposed summer research, a letter from the student’s advisor, a note from the DGS on the progress, and the student’s CV. If a DGS is supporting more than one student in a department, he or she should provide a ranking, including brief comments.
The deadline for applications each year takes place in mid- to late-February, with student applications due in mid-February and letters from the Directors of Graduate Study due at the Graduate School on the third Friday of February. Precise details are available from the Graduate School.
Selection criteria will be based on quality of work, progress toward degree, and potential for having an impact on the study of religion in their respective disciplines. We assume that some of the students who are involved in the working groups will be competitive for these summer grants, and in the case of equal candidates, preference will be given to those who have been chosen to participate in the working groups.
