Ethan Guagliardo, a recipient of a Mellon summer stipend, is a Ph.D. candidate in early modern English literature at the University of Notre Dame. His dissertation, "The Limelight of the Idols: The Poetics of Political Theology in Early Modern England, 1579-1610" traces how the concept of idolatry provided poets of the late Elizabethan and early Jacobean period with a language to describe the manipulation and creation of political authority. He has forthcoming articles in English Literary History and Modern Philology.
